This page documents the historical Nekoware project prior to 2018. Nekoware grew out of admin of Nekochan.net, "nekonoko", attempting to port software during and after Freeware was no longer updated.

The current Nekoware distribution is based on, but incompatible with, the build criteria and standards partially established.

Differences from Modern Nekoware

Of note, the following major differences are to be observed:

  1. Old nekoware was built with as many options enabled as possible. This made builds often bloated, and development time longer.
  2. Old nekoware used now deprecated or known to be problematic APIs on IRIX. This includes esound (now replaced by sndio).
  3. Old nekoware was a decentralized effort.
