NUMAlink is a high-speed low-latency computer bus used a single system image interconnection in Silicon Graphics computer systems.

History

Three generations of NUMALink were shipped by Silicon Graphics, with Rackable Systems acquiring the technology later.

CrayLink/NUMALink 2

SGI acquired Cray Research in 1996 and branded the interconnect CrayLink for the Origin 200, Origin 2000, and Onyx2. It uses the HUB ASIC and has a maximum speed of 1.6 Gigabytes per second through two 800 Megabyte lanes.

NUMALink3

Used by the Origin 3000, Origin 300, Chimera (Tezro, Origin 350), and early Altix machines. Doubles the speed to 3.2 Gigabytes per second.

NUMALink4

Used by the Altix 4000 machines.
