This message indicates that the tape drive has reported to Irix that it has a hardware error.
If the problem persist, perform the following steps:
Power down the workstation, and then power the tape drive off.
Power the tape drive back up and then boot the workstation again.
Insert a known good tape into the tape drive.
Test that the tape drive problem is still present by running the Confidence test for the tape device by selecting “System” and “Run Confidence Tests” from the Toolchest.
Special things to watch for:
Make sure the cabling to the tape drive is seated firmly.
Make sure the proper cabling is used and make sure it's properly terminated.
Make sure the maximum cable length has not been exceeded. See your Owners Guide for this information.
Note: To eject the tape, you may have to power down the system and tape drive, and while powering the tape drive up, keep the tape device “eject” button pressed. This will force the tape to eject.
If the problem persists, contact your System Administrator, the vendor for your tape drive, or your service provider.
