Appendix D. International Keyboard Support

The Indy workstation uses a PS/2-compatible keyboard that does not support software identification for the varied international keyboard languages that Silicon Graphics offers.

Instead, you select the keyboard layout from the System Maintenance menu. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. After you've assembled the workstation, turn on the power, as shown in Figure D-1.

    • Press the power switch on the front of the monitor to turn on your monitor.

    • Press the power button to turn on the system, as shown in Figure D-1.

  2. While the system is powering up, you see the notifier shown in Figure D-2 on your monitor screen.

  3. Click Stop for Maintenance to display the System Maintenance menu icons.

  4. Click the Select Keyboard Layout icon.

    The Keyboard Layout menu is displayed, as shown in Figure D-3.

  5. Click the box next to the name that describes your keyboard, then click Apply.

To test if the correct layout was selected, click the Command Monitor icon, and try typing some sample text, including special characters specific to your keyboard.
